Because of this reason in the past\u00a0 four decades, Costa Rica has enjoyed one of the highest standards of living in Latin America and is referred to as the Switzerland of Latin America. Traditionally, throughout history, a country’s military is used against its people first. To many, the lack of military presence is a huge deciding factor for moving to Costa Rica or having a second home there. This means that as a country, it is not situated in a geographical location that could be used to invade another country or possess a foreign asset. Throughout recent history, many countries in the world have seen sudden regime changes and ‘color revolutions’ and have always followed with the establishment of ‘puppet governments’ that are in alignment with foreign bodies that not always act in the best interests of the citizens of that country. Traditionally, countries with a high degree of natural valuable resources become entrenched or overrun by cartels that desire to control the resources of that country.
